About DecomBR

The fourth edition of SPE Brazil Decommissioning Symposium will happen on the 26th and 27th of May 2026 in Rio de Janeiro City, BRAZIL.

All three of the last editions were a great success, increasing the number of attendees from 300 to 450, addressing topics such as wells, flowlines, subsea equipment, production platforms (including FPSOs, Semi-Submersibles, and Fixed Platforms), new technologies, and environmental aspects of decommissioning.

The 2025 Theme was “The decommissioning opportunity: reshaping the end into a new beginning.” This theme proposal aims to focus on the opportunities that decommissioning generates for the market, particularly about the recycling industry and its impact on the circular economy. It also addresses the sustainability issues associated with decommissioning and dismantling processes. There were eleven sponsors: Petrobras, SLB, PRIO, OceanPact, Baker Hughes, Claxton, Constellation, Halliburton, James Fisher, and MDL.

The 2026 edition will keep the last edition format, starting with an opening session with an overall view and analyses, then sharing two discussion spaces, one dedicated to well decommissioning and the other to subsea equipment and production platforms and covering lessons learned, new technologies, and perspectives.

This event presents an excellent opportunity to foster meaningful discussions because of Brazil’s high significance in decommissioning activities, particularly with the ongoing sustainability debates surrounding such projects.

Sustainability in decommissioning projects entails developing initiatives to prevent and minimize risks, costs, and adverse impacts that may affect all parties involved, including employees, communities, and the entire supply chain. Additionally, it focuses on amplifying positive effects and social benefits, enhancing safety, and improving project economics. By approaching decommissioning with care and transparency, the industry can demonstrate its serious commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities and minimizing its environmental and societal impact.

This event stands as one of the largest globally for decommissioning offshore installations. It will bring together leading petroleum operators, top service companies, academia, consulting services, government regulators, and other stakeholders to deliberate on sustainably enhancing the decommissioning process. Join the discussions with industry specialists, stay informed about the latest trends and technologies, and network with key players in the sector.

This two-day meeting in Rio de Janeiro is an excellent opportunity to network and keep updated about new technologies and trends.

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) – Macae and Brazil SPE Sections are organizing this event; SPE is a non-profit organization, and “collect and disseminate petroleum knowledge” is the SPE’s primary mission.
