Session 5 “Well Decommissioning – A vision of the future”
A recent forecast for well decommissioning in Brazil indicates that more than 3,500 well abandonment interventions will occur by 2028, with an estimated investment of over R$ 44 billion. Approximately 97% of this amount will be directed towards the decommissioning of 732 offshore wells, highlighting Brazil as one of the countries with the highest demand for decommissioning resources, especially in the maritime environment. This strategic scenario sets Brazil as a potential major beneficiary of innovations to be implemented through the introduction of new techniques, technologies, and regulations.

In this session, we will explore the technical and technological future perspectives for well decommissioning in Brazil, focusing on the long-term visions and developments of Operators and Service Providers. The aim is to promote synergy among the developments of different industry stakeholders, discussing solutions and approaches that ensure efficiency in well abandonment while preserving operational and environmental safety.
